It rained a couple of inches the night before, so the range was absolutely soaked. I made sure to get my points on the stages since movement was pretty limited in the slop. It was pretty chilly as well which gave me trouble with my trigger finger resetting the trigger at times. (literally trigger freeze lol) On Stage 11 I figured the ground was finally dry enough to try moving hard between positions. I was wrong and ended up flying head first, but I kept the gun pointed uprange and managed to finish the stage. The stages were all a lot of fun, and all the match staff was excellent. I joined the Rudy Project Competition Squad this week and am excited about what the next shooting season is going to have to offer. Check out www.e-rudy.com and send me a message if you are looking for some new shooting glasses or just some cool sunglasses. I was using the Genetyk shooting kit for the match and loved them.

The Slingshot Channel revisits the safety issues. As most shooters know, safety glasses are mandatory when shooting with slingshots. But can safety glasses protect your eyeball from a broken off fork arm? This has been tested with a styrofoam head and raw eggs that simulate the human eye ball. The results are impressive and quite shocking. Everything has been recorded in super slo mo, using a high speed camera (1200 fps). At the end of the video, a direct hit against the “egg” eye, but protected with sunglasses, has been tested. Watch the devastating results! Never ever shoot at someone with a slingshot, it may end beeing fatal.

Great shooting.
That was a very worthwhile and sobering video, I would be interested in seeing what eye protection you find works the best!
i felt a little dizzy after watching the egg crack
Wow Your garden is really nice!
lol eyejellys
As disturbing as the exploding “eye” was at the same time I found this video to be very entertaining and educational
Thanks lots for making it!
Why are you smiling Styrofoam head!?
to be the guy who warns people about potential eye damage is a VERY IMPORTANT thing,
when i started badminton no one warned me about eye damage and i got hit in the eye by my coach’s racquet. and later on found out many players went blind getting hit by the shuttle, i am now half blind on right side.
Jelly in my eye? ITS PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!
Love you setup
I have been hit in the eye by a 20mm steel ball, that ricochet off a steel plate. i was not shooting but standing next to a friend. I was very lucky because i never lost my eye, but it really hurt. don’t even go near a sling shot without eye protection. you don’t want to learn the hard way
that eye looks freaky
I think safety goggles with head bands are the way to go. I have ordered two different models (one inexpensive and one mid price product) and will test them ASAP.
Aweful demonstration, but how we’re able to protect our eyes right? I mean.. a welding helmet isn’t that elegant way to do.
True, lead balls are much safer. When shooting steel, the shooter must always shoot at an angle so the ricochet does not hit him right back.
I shopped around and settled on the AOS Maxim 2×2 goggles – cool looking and outfitted with a headband. Those are also certified for high impact protection.
Great video!
Swimming glasses could be strong enougth to tackle a ricochet. But if you’re shooting steel balls they got alot more energy left after impact with your target. A lead ball with the same mass and speed would have less energy left when ricochet, because the deformation of the lead takes energy.
From a safety perspective it’s therefore “less” dangerous to shoot with lead balls.
wow gut zu wissen und danke fürs video (hatte ich mir ja gewünscht)
hoffen wir mall das das keinem passiert das die gabel bricht
Great video.. Very interesting but at the same time very frightning..
What exactly is a DERP, please? Maybe I am getting too old for this.
Of course the damage was caused by contact with my tissue. How else – tele-lashing?
@JoergSprave
That is because it made contact with your tissue.
Jeez, the DERP in your logic is astounding.
you wont be shooting youre self or others you would get hit by a ricochet so use a big ball and weak bands
Jeorg I agree about the visor. I used to work with nail guns & we repeated a test from a safty video in the shop. 3 out 5 times the safty glasses faild plus in the humid summer the safty glasses fog up and cause workers to injur their hands simply because we could see what we was doing. That ended with the visor which was less apt to be knocked of or crack.
Another thing I’d like to point out is that the glasses flew up when hit, if they had a piece of elastic that went round the back of the head this would help hold them in place and and make them more effective.
@JoergSprave I do place my right arm by upper half of sternum, so if something breaks, i got hit there instead of eyes or teeth. Sometimes but rarely i bring aim to eyes, but only after i fully draw sling on chest level. Glasses are a must for close range shooting to protect from ricochets.
OMG, this is is nightmarish, but enlightening. Thanks for honest video…
Thank you a whole lot for this! I havent been this thrilled by a weblog for a Extended time! Youve received it, whatever that implies in blogging. HaHa.
